Yield robber – Soybean cyst nematode (SCN) is one of the nematodes that infect plant roots and cause yield loss to farmers. Unlike many other soybean pathogens, farmers are often unaware of the activity of SCN until the ‘deed’ has been done when the nematode has caused a significant yield loss. This is because the nematode sometimes will not show any unique symptoms when present in fields. So most soybean farmers are frequently secretly robbed of their soybean yields by SCN.
In our lab, the Heather Kelly Lab, our recommendation to farmers is to submit soil samples from their fields to test them for the presence of SCN before and after each planting season. So far we have tested going to 200 soil samples. hashtagsoilsampling hashtagfieldtest hashtagyields hashtagsoybean hashtagplants
